We've seen two other kings and they are basically opposites. From my understanding, all three of these kings are believers. All three will be in heaven one day. But they all lived different lives. <br />
<br />
Saul started out great, but because of unconfessed sin and pride in his heart, he ended up a madman who committed suicide.<br />
<br />
David saw God's hand in his life from the time he was young while he was tending sheep. It gave him confidence to kill a giant. But he sins and commits murder. He confesses his sin and has a right relationship with the Lord, but the consequences of his actions lead to many family problems.<br />
<br />
Solomon asks God for an understanding heart. He had listened to his father's charge to him and it seems took it to heart. He did well in the beginning and God allowed him to build the temple. But he took foreign wives to marry and built for them altars and temples to worship their own gods. This caused a downward spin that Solomon never was able to fully pull out of. He probably wrote Proverbs early in life and Ecclesiastes is a testament to a life that is not closely in tune with God. He ended up having the kingdom split in two after him and here is where the kingdom divides. It divides after Solomon's death.<br />
<br />
Then they were captured at different times. Israel sooner, they had no good kings. Judah later by Babylon - they had a few good kings. Below is a timeline showing approximate years. <br />

<br />
David humbles himself before God. He recognizes that it's not far that the God of the universe lives in a tent while he has a regular house. Then God tells him that his kingdom will be forever. David responds in humility saying "Who am I?"<br />
<br />
Next though David does some of his worst stuff ever. He proves that God still uses weak and frail people. He shows us that confession is the thing that keeps us right with God and that was the distinguishing difference between him and Saul.<br />
<br />
Did you read Psalm 51? What an anguished cry from a man who recognizes his sin! I know my heart often cries out under the weight of my issues, the sins I struggle with. But our realness and honesty before the Lord is what keeps us in right relationship with Him. It keeps us growing in Him. It keeps us alive. When we hide it and embrace it as Saul did we turn into evil, grasping and even at times dangerous people. <br />
<br />
I hope you are enjoying this study as much as I am. Being in the Word is invigorating. Maybe all you have is time to read the passage of Scripture. Today would be 1 Samuel 11 and Psalm 51.<br />
<br />

If all you do is get the blog read you'll at least know the gist of the story. 😊<br />
<br />
Today's lesson is about Saul<br />
<br />
Remember how the Israelites didn't obey when God told them to go into the land and take over. They let the other groups stay and in turn were sucked into their ways of life and their beliefs. It probably wasn't a quick turn of events, but rather a slow fade as the song from Casting Crowns is titled.<br />
<br />
The Israelites had been walking through the desert for more than forty years, in the course of this time their sandals did not wear out, they had water and manna from heaven. God had proven Himself over and over again. And yet, here they are demanding a king. How heartbreaking it must have been to a God who had been faithful over the years, knowing He knows better than any human king. And yet, He gives in to their demands.<br />
<br />
Saul starts out as a pretty great guy. He's not sure about being a king. He hides for starters. But then he embraces the role and does a good job. Until he got a big head...he thinks he can do the prophet's role and the king's. But they were distinctly separate for a very good reason. This is when Saul finds out that the kingdom will be torn from him.<br />
<br />
God chose a different person to be king...someone after His own heart. We don't see Saul admit wrongdoing very often and when he does it seems nothing changes. He goes right back to doing those things he shouldn't, i.e. chasing David and being jealous. We will see things happening differently with David though.<br />
<br />
Outward appearance is meaningless to God; the heart is what matters. Performance means nothing; faithfulness means everything. Samuel learned this lesson when he met Jesse's sons. <br />
<br />
Saul doesn't seem to know much about trusting God. We don't read about any experiences he may have had, but David does. He talks of how God killed the bear and the lion and surely could take care of the giant. He's not looking at his circumstances, but he's looking at his God.<br />
<br />
Saul hears the women singing David's praises and turns jealous. Now, instead of rejoicing that the giant is dead, he wants David dead. One thing that I think is very cool about David is that he is given several opportunities to kill Saul and he doesn't take them. He doesn't believe it's his right to take the life of the "Lord's annointed".<br />
<br />
Day 1 is done!<br />
Keep pressing on!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So I'm slowing down on my purging but still have so far to go. I worked on the school room the other day. It was a mess as it always seems to be. I can only keep it clean for a week or two before it becomes a mess. This time it was a mess as we had to completely move out of one room to make room for our new gentleman who moved in. Everything was put in the school room so that we could get his room ready.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMgDu9hD7LNjCe4CwDME3EzVoByGmt77m0-YytdVKvRuaWe8Fx7PEcskJMO5NZ5nzVwvbEzHIxm3Qhyphenhyphenj0fwsle8HMIJfbgk2IFbLcZJht0np40vmA1wfP5ho3nllAhi0F1WV06lAbT9D7f/s1600/20180120_161943.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMgDu9hD7LNjCe4CwDME3EzVoByGmt77m0-YytdVKvRuaWe8Fx7PEcskJMO5NZ5nzVwvbEzHIxm3Qhyphenhyphenj0fwsle8HMIJfbgk2IFbLcZJht0np40vmA1wfP5ho3nllAhi0F1WV06lAbT9D7f/s320/20180120_161943.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found a lot of things that I'm just ready to be done with. I just want to have less to move from one place to another. A huge box went into the back of the van to take to donate at the thrift store downtown. Less is better. Less is easier to clean. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So I thought that I would just discuss my method for paring things down during laundry. <br />
<br />
I usually go through the children's clothes every few months, specifically when the seasons change. But in the meantime, I sort things when I'm going through the laundry. <br />
<br />
I also have the children put clothes that are too small on my bed, but that doesn't always happen. <br />
<br />
Today I found 12 items that needed to find a new home.<br />
<br />
For the last day of the 8 week challenge: My total is 723 items.<br />
<br />
I will continue to sort and purge in our house. There is always much to do here.<br />

I found quite a few things that I don't need and really like the look of my room better now. I wanted to make it more cozy with a space for everything and not a lot of clutter. I want it to be a haven rather than a place to throw the things that don't have a place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUwljuYpAjxduA3_lWYteIHvZs1ldEyPE0sguRApw-waFQndxCyuNSGWJBGw1rNvfdwC1XRPnSKO6KO_E7POTdUXeXqtUvt7PKKt5qHjeehASd7Z8NcjpwqVWtJm4guk7kgN3YaThZ_XYj/s1600/20180116_113200.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUwljuYpAjxduA3_lWYteIHvZs1ldEyPE0sguRApw-waFQndxCyuNSGWJBGw1rNvfdwC1XRPnSKO6KO_E7POTdUXeXqtUvt7PKKt5qHjeehASd7Z8NcjpwqVWtJm4guk7kgN3YaThZ_XYj/s320/20180116_113200.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What a pile of things to remove from my house? It makes me happy to think that some of this will be able to be enjoyed by someone else and some of it will be thrown away, but I won't be moving it around my house from one spot to another. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This helps me to keep things clean when the things in our house have a place and the things that don't have a place are given to someone who can use them, or thrown away.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today's number of items: approximately 20 items; goal for the day - 390 items</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Total items for the challenge: 711 items</div>

We are missing an AWANA book and we decided that we should fully clean the room in order to find it. No such luck! But! We did find a lot of things to throw away and give away. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I spent the afternoon watching a movie and sorting legos from all the other junk in the Lego box. I found 100 things to throw or give away. <br />
<br />
The last few days are assigned to areas that don't need work in my house, so I will continue to work on the areas that need it. It took a lot longer than 15 minutes. <br />
<br />
Our house has way too much stuff in it. Way too much. And my husband and I are ready to pare it down a lot. We moved a lot of things to the garage that will be ready for a trip to the dump and/or to be donated. <br />
<br />
Today I found 100 things. The goal for the day is 380 items.<br />
<br />
Total for the challenge is currently 691 items.<br />
<br />
Keep pressing on,<br />

I've been busy with some new changes in our household.<br />
<br />
After our loss last year of the precious 81-year old lady who lived with us for over 2 years, I wasn't sure I'd ever want to add another person to our household in the same way. It was so tough losing her and the loss is still felt throughout our household.<br />
<br />
Just before Christmas, I was approached by my boss to see if I would be willing to take another person into our home. A gentleman needed a home in two weeks. His care giver was moving and he couldn't move with her.<br />

This week is beautiful and I can get out to the Garage and do that other side that I've been planning to work on for over a week. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif7uvWMSPsHusod5fvCeEnNr9BaeggRTdwBBtsKdZVI1H4GDkzlVClB1kTGv6kQTBFG1dsZTh9WXmd5iNmCwEL5Mc2LwSa9-5KU5ZVsBViidtfIoDINVyVwKaAoVld1eL68f3D7opuwrmB/s1600/20180108_124159.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif7uvWMSPsHusod5fvCeEnNr9BaeggRTdwBBtsKdZVI1H4GDkzlVClB1kTGv6kQTBFG1dsZTh9WXmd5iNmCwEL5Mc2LwSa9-5KU5ZVsBViidtfIoDINVyVwKaAoVld1eL68f3D7opuwrmB/s320/20180108_124159.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There wasn't a lot to throw away, actually all the trash bags that must go to the dump are in this side of the garage. But that has already been designated as trash. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I simply straightened up in this area - moving the saw where it goes and putting all the trash in one pile. Then we swept the floor, dumped the sand that was in the wagon in the garage. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nothing was thrown away today. So the total remains the same at 569 items and the goal for today was 350.</div>

I don't always have the time I need to put them where they are supposed to go, so I have a little box that I collect the game pieces.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIi1aecSI-AA_8knjk5Z4M67Qi4pST8r7oY3APsvNlSNp90oC5MFilHqfdQLyp-ZBwNEaHQhbg6teW5PCiAYBib83VQz6XCc9Tvvoe6s0baqWNwgbbpUCQ1OfVEkOyFfpnD20iJ-c7bCFq/s1600/20171228_174618.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIi1aecSI-AA_8knjk5Z4M67Qi4pST8r7oY3APsvNlSNp90oC5MFilHqfdQLyp-ZBwNEaHQhbg6teW5PCiAYBib83VQz6XCc9Tvvoe6s0baqWNwgbbpUCQ1OfVEkOyFfpnD20iJ-c7bCFq/s320/20171228_174618.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I sorted them and was very particular about what I saved. This is a project that I need to do with the kids involved. I don't know to which games the pieces belong, and they do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I threw away a lot of cards that aren't full decks, so I hit the jackpot yesterday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yesterday's total was a conservative 90 items.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Total for the challenge: 569 items; Goal for today was 340 items</div>

I saw that the tree was tilted at an almost 45 degree angle. It was a little Charlie-Brown Christmas tree so it wasn't too hazardous. But I did feel like it was time for it to go. So I decided that it was time to clean up the holiday stuff - my snowmen stay around for January.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN1RVZ9b7uAJ_O_tpxuAXQQEZ5GDcs3w6XecpGLVXN7twRqkobi8QYVPqpEYHr8XA2X8RybO5OEQVICpYAtXHCp0jq2YJvwK2rImhl2uTrj-67-49MaaR2tY_vDlvrOXvZiVdbZAM3kfKW/s1600/20171227_072335.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN1RVZ9b7uAJ_O_tpxuAXQQEZ5GDcs3w6XecpGLVXN7twRqkobi8QYVPqpEYHr8XA2X8RybO5OEQVICpYAtXHCp0jq2YJvwK2rImhl2uTrj-67-49MaaR2tY_vDlvrOXvZiVdbZAM3kfKW/s320/20171227_072335.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I sorted all the kids ornaments and put them in bigger boxes with their manager sets that they make during VBS. I also decided to have specific totes for specific items. So the tree things - ornaments and garland etc all in one tote, outside lights and hooks in another tote and the wrapping stuff in the red tote above, because the wrapping paper fits inside.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbfpmdUULawW4kBiCcxzcwDtS7p2BPMbtuG7JFJXwiEjUsbnkBoVvUeiV13JI1cSHsHXvJhYalm37NU9dE4PqpuoCSutAZuqN7JFPIr7FYHS92FC2nshzsnAoE6w7wJWrlIi-kQEKYaIvg/s1600/20171227_100438.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbfpmdUULawW4kBiCcxzcwDtS7p2BPMbtuG7JFJXwiEjUsbnkBoVvUeiV13JI1cSHsHXvJhYalm37NU9dE4PqpuoCSutAZuqN7JFPIr7FYHS92FC2nshzsnAoE6w7wJWrlIi-kQEKYaIvg/s320/20171227_100438.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
I found lots of things that don't need to be part of my Christmas ornaments. But I'm working through the totes in my storage room and have an inkling that there is a missing tote. So I'll keep working my way through that room as I have time.<br />

Total items found for this day: 36 items<br />
<br />
Total items for the challenge: 479 items; goal for today: 330 items<br />

I did one of the stalls today. The other was planned for tomorrow, but it's completely booked so I'm not sure it will work.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I didn't throw anything away today. Well I guess I did. An old box, but that was it. I put the tools away and swept the floor. It looks so much better, but I didn't get a picture of the better.<br />
<br />
I hope you all have a great Christmas! I don't think I'll be back on here till after Christmas, so I hope you all enjoy time with family.<br />

And things get put here that don't belong here. I decided the chairs should just go to the toy shed, in a corner. It's actually the same shed as the toy shed with a divider down the middle and it's accessed from two doors on the outside. <br />

This area doesn't look horrible. But the kids and I went in with the idea of being very selective about what stays. The chair stayed but I'm not sure what to do with it. It works but we don't have a place for it in our house right now. Our oldest is considering moving out so there may be room for it soon. I just need to find a seat cushion for it.<br />

This picture is blurry. We found 17 things for the trash: balls that don't hold air, a bike that is missing a gear shift, etc. And we put away all the sand box dump trucks that don't need to be out in the weather. We were done long before the timer went off.<br />

Total for the day - 17 items<br />
<br />
Total for the challenge - 443 items; Goal for today - 300 items.<br />

<br />
My closet desperately needed to be cleaned out so I adjusted my schedule and did it. I hauled it all out and then was asked to go in and work for someone who wasn't feeling well. Thankfully, she was able to wait until I got things mostly taken care of. <br />

I took some empty totes from the basement and filled them with the blankets. Then I put all the gift bags and paper in a container, I'll have to sort the things in that container later. Also youth group study materials were placed in a box for the future.<br />

Our coats hang on hooks and usually we try to pile too much on each hook. No one can find gloves, hats or anything needed when we're rushing out the door. So today I took a little extra time to provide some organization to this mess.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhth_THW-aC-wUY3f1jot_ccvrlR3I13nSl9Kd-aW_HZpTH_FspgdVI8uUeX7hhbtADWV2l6dluUbJJPxaRZhXgUPOkYr646vmm_Ln3L233fE7u5czS2TGtsMHiGPavS-NSUPxYVnZggQJX/s1600/20171213_091742.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhth_THW-aC-wUY3f1jot_ccvrlR3I13nSl9Kd-aW_HZpTH_FspgdVI8uUeX7hhbtADWV2l6dluUbJJPxaRZhXgUPOkYr646vmm_Ln3L233fE7u5czS2TGtsMHiGPavS-NSUPxYVnZggQJX/s320/20171213_091742.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I piled all the coats in the living room. As I brought them from the hallway, I placed them in piles for each person. I know that the hallway will still be somewhat chaotic even after I am finished. Nine people's coats in one hallway...um, you get the picture. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyiu6jGvjLxa97tfG45RHgYPkQIo6isU892HHSq0aztgonUfnDKJWgEn4D9KZEqeC5lTD0pzryL5gbD0rU_xLU6Ro36w72rQKZ7nPXCND46EWBT8OfEIc3xTLYeJ4n4H68Zn2lfPwECXyl/s1600/20171213_093611.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyiu6jGvjLxa97tfG45RHgYPkQIo6isU892HHSq0aztgonUfnDKJWgEn4D9KZEqeC5lTD0pzryL5gbD0rU_xLU6Ro36w72rQKZ7nPXCND46EWBT8OfEIc3xTLYeJ4n4H68Zn2lfPwECXyl/s320/20171213_093611.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
I have these bags that I don't use often but really can't throw away. So each person will get one bag behind their coat for a hat, gloves and a scarf.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq1wMLSc8hWuLHdVBZjtnhg4kHrf-yYXIJTQuK7wmye46L8LHaOwMpCzW9rOgRkr_yegVYWLCJC3ZKj1CxLcH_gSZDN_D-XwfsDUHkJ8yfHvTCw19Fprb6gE4j2L6k__hpa3YeoQVujW0H/s1600/20171213_094823.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq1wMLSc8hWuLHdVBZjtnhg4kHrf-yYXIJTQuK7wmye46L8LHaOwMpCzW9rOgRkr_yegVYWLCJC3ZKj1CxLcH_gSZDN_D-XwfsDUHkJ8yfHvTCw19Fprb6gE4j2L6k__hpa3YeoQVujW0H/s320/20171213_094823.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
Final product is much better. One coat per person, each person has a hook or two. It works pretty well for a day or two.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwoJ-BMohR0jppZ_RvRL5VfeBE5nvmhJ0mnFMPIgsJm6lW_-BZdyzHwuCMGu_iakVCNUlk181bwlnfsN7unsW2o_FX6KCdPb8RxZmCXVdPH-dVrY0Ildk1UoPA0Vq0gpWBs25_NIRHrqtc/s1600/20171213_095354.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwoJ-BMohR0jppZ_RvRL5VfeBE5nvmhJ0mnFMPIgsJm6lW_-BZdyzHwuCMGu_iakVCNUlk181bwlnfsN7unsW2o_FX6KCdPb8RxZmCXVdPH-dVrY0Ildk1UoPA0Vq0gpWBs25_NIRHrqtc/s320/20171213_095354.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

Today I cleaned the girls' closet out. They had such a neat closet when I went up there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTZzbe6QkXsHIjw8mhrBHitNDjVoPHNxUzXt0gg2vP-GU2A5FAbjZXgAvtOtj9nqtEp0zSZIc_6H-dy3wPUDqiiucJ3JUuVLxGIZ9V4tXkzugkVrn_a4y5rEvWGeTgEmRow-y4erDNAc5k/s1600/20171213_091651.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTZzbe6QkXsHIjw8mhrBHitNDjVoPHNxUzXt0gg2vP-GU2A5FAbjZXgAvtOtj9nqtEp0zSZIc_6H-dy3wPUDqiiucJ3JUuVLxGIZ9V4tXkzugkVrn_a4y5rEvWGeTgEmRow-y4erDNAc5k/s320/20171213_091651.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
I was surprised because this is the view walking into their room. Chaos, and disaster.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxVbvOJubl2F7wzES-ov-XXwCdrS6AChwWJu1kMEgBgA7kL6t-xrYuZrEqVquJot-f8cJpnpzOvae_um_hHrycQG22w-dskrJilRvgK_uH96owtpy-hojHdUrdQnG5f6CtzOXTtUa0W9ua/s1600/20171213_091713.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxVbvOJubl2F7wzES-ov-XXwCdrS6AChwWJu1kMEgBgA7kL6t-xrYuZrEqVquJot-f8cJpnpzOvae_um_hHrycQG22w-dskrJilRvgK_uH96owtpy-hojHdUrdQnG5f6CtzOXTtUa0W9ua/s320/20171213_091713.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
But it was pleasant that I didn't have a lot to do in their closet specifically. I culled their clothes and found a few things that they don't like - I only know that because they don't wear the clothes and some that were too small.<br />
<br />
Total items for today: 7 items<br />
<br />
Total for challenge: 403 items; Goal for today is 260 items.<br />
<br />
Keep pressing on,<br />

I've just been doing the things that seem like they should be next on the list. So if you're following my plan and see that I've strayed from it, you are correct.<br />
<br />
This is actually what I did yesterday. I hope to get another closet finished and then the kids' closets will be done. I also hope to blog about it today, but we'll see.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBFzcCKE7It-GPwoD3hB7w50lcrrUYEUHciUGrMbd3dn2iKMurgPQS776L0x3lK0e3W38ytAKPBZSmT_fSE040Ff4FrFhxi6ATSYMTR9oY7H4A9c3vHzBg8GYqmCpFQVLGQSi1rHdQ13RO/s1600/20171206_074105.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBFzcCKE7It-GPwoD3hB7w50lcrrUYEUHciUGrMbd3dn2iKMurgPQS776L0x3lK0e3W38ytAKPBZSmT_fSE040Ff4FrFhxi6ATSYMTR9oY7H4A9c3vHzBg8GYqmCpFQVLGQSi1rHdQ13RO/s320/20171206_074105.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
We went through the box and sorted all the jumble of things in there. We're going to try to keep the floor of the closet clean. We'll see. Not sure if that will happen. It's my goal and not theirs. So it would mean me making sure it happens. Which means I have to put it on my schedule and have it recurring.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My daughter took the pictures above for the clean closet. The floor is clean and the toys are sorted, but I realize I didn't get to their clothes and I'm sure they have some in their closet that need to be sorted out. So I'll save that for another time.<br />
<br />
Today I found 22 items to throw away.<br />
<br />
Total for the challenge: 396 items; Goal for today was 250 items<br />
<br />
Keep pressing on,<br />

The guest room closet...that place where everything goes that has no home...including the things that I've been collecting to donate. The kids helped me haul that all into the van for piano lesson day so that we can drop the bags off on our way to piano.<br />
<br />
I sorted and organized. I have Christmas presents kept in here, don't tell the children. I definitely need to start wrapping those.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I still found a few things that headed to the trash can. And it looks so much better. I kept our decorations container in there, just so it's available as we aren't really finished decorating our home.<br />

I have perfume that I need to do something with. I know that there is no way I can use it all and someone else might as well before it goes bad. <br />
<br />
I had to work today so I didn't have a lot of time. But I did manage to find a few items that I could donate to someone.<br />

Yes, I know, if you're tracking what my list says to do, I skipped a couple of days. I didn't even get all done. I mean, I need like three or four days to get this closet done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So I just did my side of the closet and really found a lot of things that could be tossed or donated. I laid out my hang-up clothes according to dress up, work and casual, summer, spring, fall and winter. Then I asked what I've worn recently and what I really don't like.<br />

<br />
I found a bunch of things to donate and throw away. And it feels good to get my closet organized. I found some things I'd been missing.<br />

I had my boy in his room and before he'd had his coffee. I hauled all the hangars out of the closet and proceeded to have him tell him which was his and which was his brother's. They share a closet but the older brother is gone and has taken most of what he cares about to college anyway. <br />

<br />
I had worked through the summer bit by bit sorting and organizing their closet, boxing up older brother's special things for him to deal with later. We're assuming he'll have a different room in the attic by the time he needs those items, so it made sense just to box them up already.<br />
<br />
I found a few coats and lots of jeans that are old. Some nice jeans that are too small for them we saved for the younger brothers and a coat that's very nice.<br />
<br />
Total for donation or throwing away: 16 items<br />
<br />
Total for the challenge: 317 items; Goal through today: 210 items<br />
<br />
Remember you don't have to do all of this in one day. If you can't do this much break it down - one shelf in the closet is better than nothing. Don't let being overwhelmed paralyze you and keep you from doing anything.<br />

Keep pressing on,<br />

This dresser was a bit harder. I haven't messed with his clothes for awhile as he's a high-schooler and can take care of his own things. Also we were transferring from one dresser to another, which in some ways helped.<br />

I made sure he was there to help with the sorting as he should have a say in what does or doesn't get thrown, though sometimes I'm not super happy with his choices of his favorite grubby shirts. Today, I had a bit of a solution. Those school shirts that I want to save for graduation day I pulled out of his drawers and put them in a box to keep them nice until then. Maybe he's growing out of the need for those comfy, stained and ragged shirts, but he was agreeable to my ideas and it went very smoothly. <br />
<br />
Ah, also it could be that it was pre-caffeine. He'd woken up early so I hauled him back to his room to get his input and he hadn't had coffee. New plan! Let's do the older kids' rooms before their coffee!<br />

Kid's dresser #4 has a bag of clothes that someone donated to her. So we'll go through them together and be selective about what we think she will really wear. <br />

Here's the pile of clothes we took out of her drawers. She helped me by letting me know what was too short and what she doesn't like. Younger daughter has a bunch of jeans in her drawer (I did her drawers yesterday). She has strict instructions to put any that don't fit on my bed when she tries wearing them. That's a standard rule in our house. If I find clothes on my bed, I know that someone either can't fit them or won't wear them. </div>
